Sky Mountain Park, Glassier to open Thursday

Sky Mountain Park, the high ground between Highway 82 and Snowmass Village, is one of the open space program’s most popular holdings.

Trails at Sky Mountain Park and Glassier Open Space will reopen for the season Thursday, but downhill-only Deadline Trail at Sky Mountain will remain closed for maintenance.

Reshaping of Deadline Trail began last fall, but work was suspended when it began snowing, Pitkin County said in a news release. Machinery will be in use to complete the project, which will continue until May 22 or 23. Deadline will be open Friday and Saturday and close again Monday, when work resumes.

Sky Mountain Park and Glassier Open Space have been closed to human use since Dec. 1 for the protection of wildlife. Pitkin County Open Space and Trails has consulted with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to make sure Thursday’s openings will not adversely affect elk and other wildlife that might still be on the property. CPW confirmed the openings can occur on schedule.

Included among the Sky Mountain Park trails that will open Thursday are Seven Star Trail, Rim Trail North and Upper North Mesa Equestrian Trail.
