The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District welcomes all to visit with Santa and his helpers during its annual neighborhood tour Sunday from 5 and 8 p.m. See sidebar for specific neighborhood times.
Snowmass fire marshal John Mele recalls the tradition starting sometime in the early ’90s. Mele and former Snowmass mayor Bill Boineau, both of whom were volunteer firefighters at the time, were decorating the ladder truck when Santa somehow got involved.
The firefighters and Santa paid a visit to the Little Red School House and a few neighborhoods, according to Mele, and the rest is history.
Today, a number of the firefighters get together to decorate the truck.
