“City fathers and Nordic aficionados from Aspen and Snowmass were on hand last Friday” recapped the Aspen Times in 1984 “for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Owl Creek cross-country ski trail from Buttermilk to Snowmass. Maintaining that track as well as the track to be used for the Silverboom is the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Council.” The free trail system maintained by the newly formed Nordic Council was brought to fruition through board-negotiated winter easements to connect the two communities with seamless cross-country trails, a dream which began in 1984 and is still a reality today.
