“The biggest single Nordic ski racing event in the history of the Roaring Fork Valley was held last weekend in Snowmass” reported the Aspen Times March 13, 1986. “It was the Rocky Mountain Division Championships, and entailed four days of racing. Skiers came from Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and New Mexico to compete in the championships. Junior Olympics competitors were announced at the awards ceremony held at the Snowmass Club Sunday afternoon.” The races were held on and around Owl Creek trail and with warm weather, changing conditions and both classical and freestyle disciplines, racers were challenged.
