A story on harvesting Christmas trees in December of 1973 ran in the Aspen Flyer on Jan. 10, 1974, with a caption reading, “No folks, there’s no home heating energy crisis in Aspen. What you see here is a Christmas tree cutting at Snowmass Resort last year. You paid the Forest Service $1.50 and got to cut your tree instead of buying it for $15 downtown. They were going to be cleared anyway to make way for the new Alpine Springs run which opened last month.”
