Basalt High girls basketball loses at Battle Mountain

The Basalt High School girls basketball team lost Thursday night at Battle Mountain, falling 50-34 in Edwards. According to coach Amy Contini, BHS “played a sloppy first half but a great 2nd.” Zoe Vozick had a team-high 10 points, while Taylor Glen added 7.

The Longhorns fell to 1-7 overall with the loss and now enter the holiday break. The BHS boys basketball team did not play Thursday.

Aspen skier Cassidy Jarrell has best World Cup finish in China

Aspen halfpipe skier Cassidy Jarrell saw his best results in a World Cup contest on Thursday when he finished seventh in a FIS event in Secret Garden, China, which will host part of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Canada’s Simon D’Artois won the contest with a third-run score of 93.50. New Zealand’s Nico Porteous was second (89.50) and Oregon’s Hunter Hess was third (85.50). Jarrell, who scored 51.50 on his first run and failed to finish his second, scored 74.50 on his third and final attempt.

China’s Kexin Zhang won the women’s ski halfpipe competition in Secret Garden.
