Taxing times in Aspen, Pitkin County

Well folks, it’s tax time again. Property taxes are up due to a speculative real estate market and the recent passage of tax questions for Roaring Fork Transportation Authority and other tax questions on the November ballot. Your taxes will continue to go up due to inflated property values and public tax districts.

Why? Because everyone wants to live here, and that’s the problem. Housing is scarce and not affordable unless you are very wealthy! But not everyone in Aspen can afford their property taxes.

Have you seen your recent tax bill? You can appeal you taxes to the Board of County Commissioners — but don’t expect any sympathy or tax relief from them. The commissioners’ property tax information is also available online on the Pitkin County Treasurer’s website. Check it out!
