The Eagle County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of rape against a teenager last week for an alleged assault that occurred this summer in the Basalt/El Jebel area, a prosecutor said Monday.
An 18-year-old man, who was 17 years old when the alleged assault occurred, was not identified Monday because he is charged as a juvenile, said Heidi McCollum, assistant district attorney in the 5th Judicial District, which includes Eagle County.
The man was arrested last week, though he bonded out of jail and remains out of custody, she said. McCollum said she did not know where the 18-year-old attends school, though she’d heard rumors he attends Aspen High School. She declined to say where the man lives.
McCollum also declined to release the age of the alleged victim in the case or where she lives. The alleged assault occurred early last summer, she said. McCollum said Monday she didn’t have “any direct information” that the case is related to a series of sexual assault charges filed this fall and winter against two teens boys from Woody Creek. Neither of those two boys is the defendant in this case, she said.
Aspen prosecutor Don Nottingham said Monday he is not aware of any connection between the Eagle County sexual assault and those he’s processing in Pitkin County.
Attempts to reach the 18-year-old’s Denver-based lawyer Monday were not successful.
