Who’s being obtuse?

A friend informed me he thought a letter I wrote to the papers was too obtuse for readers (“From the Department of Sarcasm,” April 9, The Aspen Times). That made me think.

When I wrote a letter urging year-round municipal election campaigns to permit more tedious political speeches and redundant endorsement letters to the papers, I received emails saying I was the only person in town who wanted year-round campaigns. When I alerted the county commissioners that a letter to U.S. senators (which the commissioners had written), inaccurately addressing a national issue that’s none of the commissioners’ business, must be a “hoax,” the county manager emailed me “on behalf of the county commissioners” assuring me their letter wasn’t a hoax.

Is it my letters that are obtuse?
