Another round of snowstorms is predicted to roll through Aspen and the Colorado mountains over the next three days, according to a winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service.
The watch goes into effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday and lasts through Friday afternoon with as much as 16 inches of snow predicted in some areas. Along with the snow, winds gusting up to 40 mph are possible at higher elevations.
The watch area covers most of western Colorado and includes Aspen, Snowmass, Marble and the Elk and West Elk mountains.
“An extended period of moderate to heavy snow possible (is) from the mid to late week period over the western Colorado and eastern Utah mountains,” according to the NWS’s Grand Junction office. “Snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches are possible, with amounts over 2 feet possible over favored aspects. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph at times near and above treeline.”
Forecasters said the heavy wet nature of the snowfall “could bring down tree branches and power lines under the right conditions.”
High temperatures Wednesday through Friday are either side of 40 degrees and another system could move in Saturday.
