If Your Password Is ‘Blink-182’ You Might Want To Change That

Y’all thought you were slick.

If Blink-182 is included within your online security, you might want to think about changing that quickly!

According to a study by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, the world’s most hacked passwords included the likes of ‘password’, ‘qwerty’, and ‘123456’

But surprisingly, included in that list, was the fictional character ‘superman’, and ‘blink182‘, which topped the most commonly hacked passwords featuring a musical artist.

In response, bassist Mark Hoppus quote tweeted the article with a disapproving ‘you guys’, whilst drummer Travis Barker commented a shrug emoji…

In an article on CNN, the NCSC Technical Director, Ian Levy, said that “Password re-use is a major risk that can be avoided — nobody should protect sensitive data with something that can be guessed, like their first name, local football team or favorite band,”

“Using hard-to-guess passwords is a strong first step and we recommend combining three random but memorable words. Be creative and use words memorable to you, so people can’t guess your password,” he continued.

So maybe next time when thinking of a password for an online account, maybe use one of the band’s songs instead, especially if it’s an obscure one?
