The Maine Want To Take A String Section Out On Tour With Them

Yes please.

The Maine frontman John O’Callaghan sat down for an in-depth discussion with Ed Masley about their brand new album ‘You Are Ok’, and it was pretty illuminating.

John shared that one of the band’s goals is to play the Comeria Theatre in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona- and to bring along a whole string section for the affair.

“It would be great to play Comerica Theatre, and have people on stage playing those string arrangements, and playing with us and having real strings,” he shared. “I think if we work hard we’ll see.”

He continued “Let’s get to a place where we can actually bring people out on tour and experience that with them on stage, and share that with people live. Because it’s something that I think would definitely push us as a band and as musicians. It’s definitely a bucket list thing.”

Speaking on how the band will perform their new single ‘Numb Without You’ live without a string section, he shared “The strings will predominantly be a part of the track- so we’ll play to the strings for now. But it’s one of those things that’s like- if we dont have them in there the song’s gonna fall flat. For most of the ones that feature the strings Steve Jobs will play them, and we’ll figure it out from there.”

He also shared that The Maine have intentionally taken their new album more left-field, saying “We wanted to make it as manic as possible, without scaring people away.”

But John hasn’t been mulling over the album, preferring to leave it until it’s released at this point- “We’ve spent so much time with it, and I’ve purposely not listened to the songs because I know I’m going to have to play them for hopefully two years.”
