Have you ever noticed that all pre-‘Nimrod’ Green Day albums have some unique tuning? Some are tuned down half a step – others a full step.
Well, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed why that’s the case – and it’s kind of a funny story.
When a fan commented on Billie Joe’s instagram post overnight sharing “funny how your voice is lower in 1992 than 2019″ the frontman leapt in to drop some additional facts, replying “funny story. We never used guitar tuners until ‘Dookie’. Mike and I always tuned to each other.. we didn’t realize until later we were tuned down half a stap to wole stop down. We accidentally had to tune down until ‘Nimrod’.”
Incredible scenes.
So basically, it was a happy mistake that Green Day’s first albums were downtuned.
