Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie has spoken about his role as a mentor for Notes For Notes music charity, sharing that the teens he’s been mentoring “are phenomenal, they blow my mind”.
Brendon Urie and Panic! At The Disco launched the Highest Hopes Foundation in 2018 and, in partnership with State Farm, have been developing projects to give back to local communities. The most recent contribution has culminated in Brendon Urie opening the new Notes For Notes music studio in his home town of Las Vegas, aimed at giving young people better access to musical equipment.
Local Las Vegas news station KTNV reported that the studio is located at the Henderson Boys and Girls Club and comes equipped with instruments worth around $10,000.
Speaking about the new studio, Brendon shared “If I had access to this studio at these kids’ age, I would have been much more well prepared and well versed for the music industry.”
As well as establishing the studio itself, Brendon has also been mentoring teens in the studio on songwriting and production, taking a special interest in preparing his mentees for what the music industry is like, sharing, “when Panic! [At The Disco] was started, we just headfirst dove in, not knowing anything about the industry, not knowing what things to be wary of and what things to jump in to. It definitely would have helped to have some kind of guidance to be like, ‘yeah this is how to write a song’ or, ‘this is how you produce something’.”
He continued, “I was so floored by the talent that I saw! When I got to visit Chicago, these kids wrote such a catchy hook that’s still in my head. It’s still in my head – I can’t get rid of it. These kids are phenomenal, they blow my mind.”
