See David Byrne and ‘American Utopia’ Cast Bring ‘Road to Nowhere’ to ‘Fallon’

David Byrne gave Tonight Show viewers a glimpse into his American Utopia Broadway residency with a rendition of the Talking Heads’ “Road to Nowhere.”

Joined by the cast of American Utopia, Byrne and company transformed The Tonight Show studio into the Hudson Theater stage by delivering the Broadway show’s marching band take on the Little Creatures classic, complete with flashlights, fine-tuned choreography and barefooted ensemble.

In addition to the performance, Byrne also sat down with Jimmy Fallon — following a quick bike ride to the stage — to discuss American Utopia and teach the late-night host some of the singer’s trademark dance moves.

American Utopia is now playing at New York’s Hudson Theater through its “must end” date of February 16th. However, as Byrne recently told Rolling Stone, he’s already planning his next theatrical venture, the Denver-bound Theater of the Mind.

“It will be in a warehouse where it’s divided into a bunch of different rooms,” he tells Rolling Stone. “A group of 16 audience members will go from room to room and experience these perceptual things. When they leave one room, another group goes in there. That way, you can get 400 people in from 6 p.m. to 10. You get the same number as if it were a theater show, but you get more in small groups.”
