Frankie Ballard has released the video for his latest single, “Young & Crazy.” The song is from his Top 5 Sunshine & Whiskey album, which was released last year.
The video, which shows Ballard performing live on stage with his band, corresponds well with the song’s lyrics, which say, “One day, I’ll slow and lay down / Spend my weekends in a swing out on the wraparound / Oh, but these days, I’m on a mission / To get these wild oats out of my system … I wanna sit out on the porch / Telling stories ’bout my glory days when I’m pushing 80 / How am I ever gonna get to be old and wise / If I ain’t ever young and crazy?”
It’s fitting that the video was shot while Ballard was touring, since it was his live shows that influenced much of Sunshine & Whiskey.
“This music was born on the road,” he says. “I’m the product of going out and making it happen, finding out what works. My influences fall everywhere from Bob Seger to Howlin’ Wolf to Jerry Reed, and through the years, it’s all come together in my songwriting and playing. People who listen are going to hear me from top to bottom.”
Sunshine & Whiskey, an 11-track album, covers a wide range of feelings and experiences for the 32-year-old.
“I’m really proud of this,” he notes. “It’s got songs that really mean something to me and that I knew would mean something to other people. It‘s got lots of different emotions, from partying and having fun to some really deep stuff. It’s an emotional journey as well as a musical journey.”
Ballard is certainly getting plenty of chances to live up to the “Young & Crazy” motto. He’s currently on the road, serving as the opening act for Florida Georgia Line‘s Anything Goes Tour. A complete list of shows is available on Ballard’s website.
