Claggett Rey Gallery in Vail Village is hosting their annual trunk show today and tomorrow for New Mexico artist and jeweler, Oreland “Bo” Joe, Jr. Joe practices the primal technique of “Tufa Stone Casting” which is one of the earliest known practices of silversmithing amongst the Southwestern Indian tribes. Joe draws inspiration from his cultural ancestry complimented by his 15-year career in the music industry, weaving rhythmic compositions and traditional elements into a contemporary presentation in his jewelry. Joe casts in fine metals, ranging from sterling silver to 18 karat gold and selects fine grade gems and minerals to accent his pieces. Each piece is one of a kind, due the tufa stone casting process, and his hand-picked, fine grade gems and minerals accent each piece in a unique and masterful way.
Born in Shiprock, New Mexico and raised among the northern Navajo region, Joe has been surrounded by tradition and art his entire life. During his early childhood, he was exposed to sculpture and music, impactful influences that became the foundation for his creativity.
In his mid 30s, Joe is already an accomplished jeweler. His work represents his traditional culture and circulates within museum and gallery markets across the United States. He has continually exhibited and sold out at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum Show and the Autry Museum Market. Join him for a meet and greet at Claggett Rey Gallery, which is also celebrating its 30th year in Vail today from 4 to 7 p.m. The gallery will be serving wines from their friends at Silver Oak Cellars. Joe’s jewelry will be on view beginning Friday and throughout the weekend.
