The Coal Ridge boys basketball team took a big step toward making a play for the 3A Western Slope League title with a 48-27 win on the road at Carbondale’s Roaring Fork High Tuesday night.
The Titans (14-4 overall, 7-1 league) opened it up early, taking a 22-11 lead into the locker room at halftime, then continued to pour it on in the second half for the convincing win to keep pace with league-leading 7-1 Gunnison. Roaring Fork falls to 5-13 overall and 4-4 in league.
On the girls side, Roaring Fork had the upper hand, claiming the 61-50 win. The Rams controlled the first half of play, opening a 31-21 lead at the half, before Coal Ridge made a play with a 19-10 run in the third. Roaring Fork battled back with 20 points in the fourth to secure the win.
The Rams improve to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in league behind Delta and Cedaredge. Coal Ridge moves to 10-8 and 4-4.
Demons stay undefeated in WSL
Both Glenwood Springs teams handled visiting Battle Mountain Tuesday night to stay undefeated atop the 4A Western Slope League.
The girls won 53-27 and the boys held up their end of the dual undefeated league seasons for the Demons with a 54-41 win. Both Glenwood teams improve to 19-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 in league.
“Everyone put in full effort tonight,” Glenwood girls coach Rhonda Moser said. “We feel like we haven’t won league until we win out. We still have a job to do. Now we’re in the third-quarter stretch, and the fourth quarter starts in the playoffs.”
Also Tuesday night, the Rifle girls lost 44-23 at Eagle Valley, and the Rifle boys won a close one, 68-66 over the Devils.
