Coal Ridge boys fall 69-68 to Moffat County in thriller

The Coal Ridge boys basketball team saw an eight-point halftime lead melt away in the final 16 minutes of play Thursday night in Craig, as the Moffat County Bulldogs mounted a 69-68 comeback win to close out the 3A Western Slope League regular season.

Over in Gunnison, the Cowboys took care of business defeating visiting Delta, 73-67, to win the league outright at 8-1. At 7-2, Coal Ridge takes the second seed into next week’s District Tournament.

The Titans grabbed the lead, 68-67, late in the game, but the Bulldogs had the last word to close the deal and finish at 6-3 alongside Grand Valley (57-44 winners over Roaring Fork in Parachute Thursday night).

In girls hoops action Thursday night, Grand Valley (6-3) defeated Roaring Fork (6-3), 42-36, Coal Ridge (5-4) defeated Moffat County (5-4), 47-39, and Rifle (6-5) defeated Steamboat Springs (5-6) in a rescheduled 4A game, 32-26.
