It’s a long way from the nether lands of Idaho to the city lights of Denver, but Todd Johnson seems to have nimbly navigated his way, over a relatively short time, to become one of Denver’s top comics. He’ll ply those comic talents when he returns to the Comedy Night at the Bowlmor, at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, at the Back Bowl in Eagle.
With his first stage appearance nearly fifteen years ago, as a dare from some friends, Johnson was immediately intoxicated by the energy of the lights and the attention that came with it. Even better was the fact that he was actually a natural at the art standup from the beginning.
But, the road from Idaho to larger markets was one fraught with challenges as he needed to hold his own against some of the best talent in the country—all looking to take it to the next level. As the saying goes, the cream always rises, and it wasn’t long before Johnson was receiving invitations to participate or compete in some of the top comedy showcases and competitions in the country.
In recent years, Johnson has appeared at the prestigious Aspen Comedy Festival, Atlanta’s popular Laughing Skull Festival and he was a finalist at the iconic Seattle International Comedy Competition. More recently, he was named runner-up in Montana’s Big Sky Comedy Competition and was a two-time finalist in the Rocky Mountain laugh-off. Johnson is now finding his way to the small screen on the Mad TV Network and was part of a film project that appeared at the New York Film Festival.
Opening the evening will be Denver comedian Talon Saucerman. This small-town boy from South Dakota has a surprisingly freakish sense of humor that unsparingly finds its mark. He performs at clubs and festivals throughout the country, but now bases himself out of Denver where, in addition to regular appearances at the Comedy Works, he produces his own monthly comedy show.
Tickets are on sale now for $19 in advance and $22 on the day of the show. They also encourage groups to take advantage of special pricing for groups of eight or more. Tickets can be purchased in person at The Back Bowl, or by calling 970-328-2095, or visiting http://www.thebackbowl.com.
