Crime Briefs: “One hit” of marijuana leads to meth charges; female that spent hours at convenience busted for meth and needles

“ONE HIT”

On May 31 at approximately 11:36 a.m. a Rifle Police officer responded to a “suspicious call” stating that a backpack was left overnight in Heinze Park.

The reporting party advised that the backpack was at the park’s gazebo and that a male wearing “a black shirt and swim trunks” was going through it and “ripping apart a notebook.”

The officer, upon arriving on scene, noticed a male “put a pipe to his lips, light the pipe with a torch and smoke,” according to the affidavit.

When asked what he was smoking the 39-year-old allegedly stated “marijuana” and that he was just taking “one hit.”

The male also allegedly told the officer that he did not know he could not smoke in public.

After running the subject’s name, dispatch advised that the male had a protection order, which stated the he “shall not possess or consume alcoholic beverages or controlled substances.”

After being placed under arrest the subject began “banging his head on the metal divider” inside the officer’s patrol car causing a laceration on his forehead.

According to the affidavit, the subject refused treatment at the hospital and was later booked into the Garfield County Jail.

Officers allegedly later discovered a meth pipe and a substance that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine in the man’s belongings.

The subject was subsequently charged with: violation of a restraining order, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public consumption of marijuana.

DUFFEL BAG WITH METH AND NEEDLES

On June 3 at approximately 2:06 a.m. an officer with the Silt Police Department noticed a woman at an area convenience store who “had been there a couple hours.”

According to the affidavit, the officer observed that the 32-year-old female was “very fidgety” and “grinding her teeth.”

The female stated that she was waiting for a ride, since the officer had already arrested her male friend in a separate, earlier incident.

During that arrest, the officer allegedly found a glass pipe “used to smoke methamphetamine in her friends’ backpack,” and that the male had said that it did not belong to him.

Subsequently, the female stated that the meth pipe was not hers and went on to say “she only shoots up with a needle.”

When the officer questioned as to what was in a tan duffel bag on the floor behind the female, she said that it’s contents belonged to her and her friend.

The female said she was not comfortable with the officer looking inside of it because “she was not sure if there was anything illegal” in it according to the affidavit.

When the officer advised that a K9 would sniff the bag the female allegedly began crying and stated that there was “meth and needles in the duffel bag.”

The female was later transported and booked into the Garfield County Jail and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The amount of methamphetamine totaled to 1.58 grams according to the affidavit.
