Local Scott French overcame addition through his love of snowboarding.
In an attempt to help others struggling with the same problems he was, French and longtime friend Eugene Stiltner launched Sober and Stoked, a group out to change the world by helping people discover their passion and purpose in sobriety. As part of that mission, Sober and Stoked is releasing a film, “6 Gifts,” following six people’s stories of addiction and the triumph to recover.
One of the six athletes profiled in the film is Melody Schofield, a CrossFit athlete who will be competing in Dwayne Johnson’s and NBC’s “The Titan Games” tonight.
“We’re pretty excited for her,” French said. “Everybody’s going to be watching.”
“The Titan Games” is a new show presenting the “most epic and inspiring athletic competition ever.” The show airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST.

Due to the government shutdown, Sober and Stoked is awaiting its final 501(c)3 nonprofit designation before launching the film, but the founders are working on other ways to start showing it.
Sober and Stoked also meets at Beaver Creek on Thursdays at 9 a.m. for group mornings on the mountain, open to everyone.
French also travels to prisons, schools and other places to talk about sobriety. He also manages Mountain Gopher, a grocery delivery service.
“It’s been pretty legendary,” he said. “And we’re just getting started.”
