Firefighters continue to monitor prescribed burn on Roan Plateau

Smoke continues to be visible west of Rifle and north of Interstate 70 from the Roan Prescribed Fire, particularly on windy afternoons.

According to a news release David Boyd, Public Affairs Specialist with the BLM said the smoke is the result of smoldering in unburned vegetation within the perimeter of the fire. The fire is not expanding, and firefighters continue to be on-scene monitoring the burn.

Firefighters with the Upper Colorado Interagency Fire and Aviation Management Unit ignited the 600-acre prescribed fire on Bureau of Land Management-administered land in late September to improve big-game habitat and promote new aspen growth.
