Liquor store robbery
A 37 year old man allegedly robbed a Parachute liquor store at knifepoint Saturday, and went home with $520 in cash and two bottles of fireball whiskey.
Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the liquor store around 4:30 p.m. Saturday when the store clerk called 911 to report the alleged robbery.
The clerk told deputies the man – a regular customer – entered the store, brandished a knife, and demanded money.
The clerk thought the man was joking at first and laughed it off. The man told her he wasn’t joking, and she gave him cash from the drawer, according to the arrest documents. He then walked through the store and allegedly picked up two bottles of Fireball and left.
When the law enforcement arrived, they reviewed security footage and were able to identify the suspect by his tattoos.
Deputies went to the man’s listed address, and around the time they arrived, the suspect had called 911 stating he had a headache and required emergency medical assistance.
The officers arrested the man and found two fireball bottles in his house and $466 in his pockets.
Troopers arrest man wanted in Virginia
A 24-year-old man who allegedly fled charges in Virginia was pulled over on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon for speeding and possibly driving under the influence of marijuana on Thursday.
A Colorado State Patrol trooper caught the man going 70 mph in a 50 mph area of the canyon, and pulled him over around 9:30 p.m.
The man had a brown glass bottle in the center cup holder, which he said contained a THC cocktail. He couldn’t provide valid proof of insurance, and failed a field sobriety test, according to the arrest affidavit.
The trooper placed the man under arrest, and searched him, finding a rolled-up dollar in his pocket. Unprompted, the man told the trooper that the rolled-up bill was in relation to cocaine.
The trooper discovered that the suspect had an extradition warrant for allegedly fleeing probation in Virginia on drug charges.
The man was charged with several misdemeanors and a drug felony and booked in Garfield County Jail.
Man assaults police officer before getting shot with a Taser
A 47-year-old man suspected of child abuse allegedly tried to claw a police officer’s eyes and made threats when law enforcement contact him.
The Silt man began calling 911 multiple times Nov. 14 and 15 to report that his wife and children were “missing.”
The man had allegedly attempted to submerge his son in the bathtub on Nov. 14 “to get the demons out of him,” according to arrest documents. His wife had taken the children to a safe place, and contacted law enforcement.
On the morning of Nov. 15, a neighbor of the man called Silt police to report that the man seemed aggressive and violent. Another neighbor called to say that the man had blocked her as she tried to leave her driveway.
The officers eventually found out the man was home, and a group knocked on the door. The man was agitated and initially refused to answer the door. When he did come out, a Garfield County Sheriff’s deputy grabbed his arm, and the suspect allegedly said, “Who is dying first today?”
As another police officer attempted to restrain the man, he began clawing at the officer’s eye and said “I am going to rip your eye out,” according to the affidavit.
The man continued to struggle and tried to grab weapons from the officer’s belt until after a warning, another officer shot him with a Taser stun gun.
Uncooperative, the man had to be carried to the police car.
Once at the hospital, a mental health evaluator said no hospital would hold him because he was too aggressive, so he was taken to the Garfield County Jail.
He is charged with assaulting a police officer, a class 5 felony, and misdemeanor child abuse and harassment.
