The Glenwood Springs Demons hockey team won a key game at home Friday night, 5-2, over Crested Butte, to improve to 4-2 in the Peak League and 8-3-1 overall.
Glenwood fell behind 1-0 just 17 seconds into the contest on a goal by Crested Butte’s Graham Barrett.
Glenwood wasted no time striking back, as junior forward Colter Strautman scored on an assist from senior Sean Mooney to even the score at 1-1.
Mooney put Glenwood up 2-1 on a short-handed goal with 3:10 left in the first period, assisted by Strautman.
With 13:09 left on the second period clock, it was Mooney again on an even strength goal with another assist coming from Strautman.
Joseph Stock got Crested Butte back in the game by scoring a power play goal to make it 3-2 Glenwood with 4:09 left in the second period.
The game remained tight until junior forward Nolan McPherson put the game away for Glenwood with a goal at the 2:44 mark of the final period. The assist came from senior Jacob Fowler.
Senior Ryan Kotz would add an empty net goal for the Demons to close out the scoring.
