Glenwood swimmers, divers bring home some state medals

The Glenwood Springs High School girls swimming and diving team came away with a sixth-place finish out of 32 Class 3A teams at the Colorado state championships in Thornton Saturday.

Junior Abby Scruton was the top Glenwood finals finisher for the day, scoring third place in the 1-meter competition. Scruton tallied 444.2 points to finish just behind a pair of Discovery Canyon divers, state champion Rachel Alexander (463.85) and silver medalist Victoria Sanders (460.8).

Two Demons’ teammates also finished in the top 10 — senior Juliet McGill, fifth place (399.35), and junior Libby Claasen (390.35), eighth.

Other top-10 finishers for Glenwood Springs included:

Amy Madsen — 100 Freestyle, fifth, 54.78; 200 Freestyle, seventh, 2:00.24.

Kylee Smith — 200 Freestyle, ninth, 2:00.43; 100 Fly, eighth, 1:01.66.

400 Freestyle Relay (Amy Madsen, Haley Diemar, Sally McDonnell, Kylee Smith) — sixth, 3:49.94.

As a team, Glenwood Springs finished sixth with 190 points, behind 3A state champion Evergreen (372.5), Aspen (214), Salida (209), Kent Denver (208) and Durango (204).
