GLENWOOD SPRINGS — First-place Battle Mountain girls’ basketball.
Just say that a few times to get used to it.
The Huskies went into Glenwood Springs and knocked off the Demons, 55-44, on Friday night and sit atop the 4A Western Slope with a 4-0 mark. And, yes, that’s six wins in a row for Battle Mountain.
These ladies are really in uncharted territory as the last time the Huskies started league play 4-0 is … well, we’ll get back to you on that.
“Being on the road is always tough,” Huskies coach Kindi Backstrom said. “It’s also finals week, so we couldn’t teach much. We went with some good drills and tried not to overload them. Everyone did a great job tonight.”
The Huskies trailed 22-20 at the half but rallied for their first win in Glenwood since Jan. 30, 2016. In that win three years ago, a freshman named Claire Krueger had 14 points. Now a senior, Krueger had 15, as did sophomore Gabby Caballero. Alden Pennington and Ariana Lopez both chipped in with seven each.
