Interstate 70 eastbound lanes re-opened at EagleVail a little after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, following a fatal crash that involved a semi-tractor trailer carrying hazardous material and multiple vehicles.
According to Colorado State Patrol, I-70 initially was closed in both directions west of Dowd Junction early Tuesday morning due the crash in the westbound lanes. The scene was expected to take most of the day to clear.
ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE: I-70 eastbound through the crash scene is OPEN. Westbound remains CLOSED for investigation and HAZMAT.

U.S. Route 6 is the detour route for westbound traffic until further notice.
Westbound I-70 at Beaver Brook near Idaho Springs is also expected to be closed most of the day due to a major rockslide, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation’s cotrip.org. U.S. Highway 285 is the suggested alternate route for westbound traffic.
