New Castle City Market’s public relations department spin on Nanci Limbach’s letter-to-the-editor about cutting off food donations to the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation left my head spinning.
According to City Market spokesperson Kelli McGannon, composting of spoiled food is a higher priority than giving it to orphaned animals, because “our first priority has to be to humans…”
Read that again. It makes no sense. If she had said that City Market cut off its food donations for Nanci’s critters because all that food was going to humans instead, that would be one thing. But no. They’re throwing all that spoiled food into a big steaming compost pile.
Meanwhile, Nanci’s got some hungry bear cubs at her wildlife rehab center. She does a lot with just a little. For no cost, New Castle City Market could join the other local City Markets and do some real good. Instead, they’re blowing smoke while they double down on their inscrutable policy changes.
You can’t buy this kind of publicity.
