My son was in the Coal Ridge High School parade of seniors yesterday (May 23) through the New Castle schools and was mocked by several teachers for wearing a red beanie.
I wanted those teachers to know that my son has been in a battle with cancer since July of last year, and that red beanie not only hides what little hair he has, that the cap from the cap and gown would not, but also symbolizes the pain and suffering he has had to endure over the last several months and for some time to come in which that red beanie has been with him every step of the way and will be in his continuous fight for life.
I am outraged by your comments to my son and, at the same time, I am a forgiving man because I know what that red beanie means to him and you don’t. So to those teachers who were quick to criticize, please think twice before condemning or making a mockery of those things you do not understand and please leave judgments of others up to God.
