It’s coming up on the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. How come the president never mentioned the millions of Americans who have lost their lives to senseless gun violence in his State of the Union speech? How come he doesn’t acknowledge the cold-hard facts that more Americans die from guns in the hands of other Americans than by illegal immigrants?
Why do we as American taxpayers have to spend billions on a wall? That money could be used to protect millions of Americans by enforcing existing gun laws and strengthening technology for better background checks. We could use the money for education on safe firearm storage in the home and supporting red flag laws, or for mental health programs with an emphasis on suicide and domestic violence prevention — where most gun violence stems from.
Let’s get smart with our tax dollars and stop the phony baseless demonization of all illegal immigrants. If guns don’t kill, walls won’t save us. Tell our politicians we don’t want another Parkland, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas or the everyday gun deaths that are all too common across our country.
