Grand River Health volunteers donate $14,000 to Grand River Health’s “Stop the Bleed” initiative

Following the Sandy Hook School shootings, in October 2015 the White House launched the “Stop the Bleed” national campaign, a call to action intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

The Grand River Hospital District Volunteer Association (GRHDVA) received Stop the Bleed training from Lisa Domer, the GRH trauma coordinator, and decided that this training, like CPR training, was significant enough to receive funds from the 2018 Grand Wine Affair to bring widespread training to the Colorado River Valley.

Domer and Amy Campagna, emergency preparedness coordinator, brought this training to the valley in 2017. They developed their own unique wound kits and training style and have trained the Rifle Police Department and GRH staff/volunteers, and helped in a statewide initiative sponsored by UC Health at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Civic or school groups interested in receiving the training can contact Domer at ldomer@grhd.org or 970-625-.6229, to schedule a training.
