No one injured or missing in skier-triggered avalanche at Loveland Ski Area

No one was injured or reported missing after search efforts concluded early Friday evening at approximately 5:20 p.m., for a skier-triggered avalanche at Loveland Ski Area.

In a statement, Loveland spokesman John Sellers said the avalanche was triggered at approximately 2:30 p.m., by a skier who accessed closed expert terrain off of the Chet’s Dream lift in the Loveland Basin portion of the ski area. Loveland added in its statement that the avalanche was reported by a guest shortly thereafter, at 2:34 p.m.

Loveland also said the ski area’s ski patrol responded immediately with beacons, probes, avalanche dogs and Recco Rescue Equipment to search the avalanche’s debris field. Clear Creek County Search and Rescue was also dispatched along with additional search teams from neighboring ski areas with avalanche dogs, including the Summit County Rescue Group.

Summit County Rescue Group spokesman Charles Pitman said 17 members of the Summit County Rescue Group responded with mutual aid to Loveland.
