Several public land parcels in Garfield County north of Parachute that were part of the deferred greater sage-grouse habitat are included in the quarterly Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oil and gas lease sale to occur Sept. 26.

The BLM announced recently that it will offer 83 parcels, totaling approximately 78,691 acres, in the lease sale. The sale will take place online via http://www.energynet.com. Bidding is to begin at 9 a.m. Mountain Time.

According to a press release, parcels are being offered for lease in the Royal Gorge, Kremmling, Little Snake and White River field offices in Garfield, Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Weld, and Jackson counties.

Environmental documents, parcel lists and maps, lease stipulations, and other relevant documents can be found online at
the BLM ePlanning site.

The latest lease sale includes 75 parcels totaling approximately 69,058 acres of previously deferred Greater Sage-Grouse habitat, according to the release.

“Parcels located within Greater-Sage Grouse habitat will comply with the March 2019 Greater Sage-Grouse Resource Management Plan Amendment,” the BLM stated in its sale announcement.

“The BLM continues to work with the state of Colorado to ensure responsible energy development through thoughtful consideration of parcels nominated for leasing and potential resource impacts of decisions to lease in identified big game habitat,” the release states.

The sales are limited to 10-year leases. Public comments on the proposed lease sales will be accepted until Aug. 26. Protests may be submitted to the BLM’s Colorado office or online at https://bit.ly/2Z5PIYd.
