Obituary: Bruce Charles Drumm

Bruce Charles Drumm, 70, longtime Vail Valley resident, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2018, after a long battle with dementia and complications from a recent fall. Born April 29th, 1948, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, to Arthur Drumm and Rosella (Hastings). Bruce was raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Meyers High School and Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, where he studied Horticulture and played basketball.

He met his wife Gail in 1971 and they moved to Vail in 1972. They were married October 30th, 1982. Bruce found a passion in food and hospitality working for Luc and Liz Meyer of The Left Bank and Mirabelle restaurants. Bruce and Gail pursued an interest in the mountain lifestyle by skiing, backpacking and traveling. In 1983, they relocated back to Pennsylvania to start their family. While raising three children, Bruce used his hospitality background to open and manage Duling-Kurtz Inn followed by Cafe 100 in Exton, Pennsylvania.

After nine years away from Colorado, Bruce and Gail were drawn back to the Vail Valley community and mountain lifestyle where they raised their three children. Bruce helped open and manage The Chateau Residence Club in Beaver Creek followed by stints with Vail Resorts on mountain dining venues; managing the Game Creek Club and Allie’s Cabin. Most recently, Bruce retired from Beaver Creek Village Transportation.

His passions were being involved in his children’s athletic activities, especially basketball, and the school communities. He had a great appreciation for the live entertainment and fine dining offerings throughout the valley. He also had an immense love of the companionship of furry, four-legged friends.

Bruce is survived by his wife Gail Drumm of Avon, CO, son Ryan Drumm (Tessa McSpadden) of Denver, CO, daughter Erin Steenrod (husband Ryan Steenrod) of Waukee, IA, son Connor Drumm of San Francisco, CA and sister Sarah “Sallie” Drumm of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Avon, CO.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Rosella Drumm.

A local celebration of life will be determined for summer of 2019.
