Pink Vail is an annual event put on by Vail Health and Shaw Cancer Center to benefit the center’s patients, and this year, they want to be sure everyone knows that all patients will benefit. The theme of this year’s event is Every Cancer, Every Color.
Due to the name of the event, it’s often assumed that only breast cancer patients will benefit from the funds raised, but simply put: that’s not the case.
Although it started as a fundraiser for breast cancer, it quickly transitioned into one benefitting everyone.
“Families were witnessing their loved ones go through treatment here, and the misconception was that (Pink Vail) didn’t serve them,” said Erin Perejda, program coordinator with Vail Health.
Proceeds from the event will go to Shaw Cancer Center’s programs offered to patients and their caregiver. The programs include treatments like acupuncture and massage, yoga classes, licensed counselors and fitness and nutrition programs. Additionally, monthly outings like visits to the Vilar Performing Arts Center and “skimotherapy” will benefit from the event.
However, the theme of the event isn’t the only way that Vail Health will promote awareness for all cancer types.

Shaw Cancer Center will also have a booth to help educate participants on the different types of cancer currently being treated, which include prostate, melanoma, breast, ovarian, pancreatic and many more.
Similarly, the ski down event will feature an artistic component, in which skiers will carry ribbons of all colors to represent the various forms of cancer that will benefit from Pink Vail funds.
Vail Health has seen a positive response to the theme already, despite the event not taking place until mid-March.
“I’ve gotten emails from patients and their loved ones saying how grateful they are that different forms are being acknowledged,” Perejda said.
Pink Vail will feature skiing, music, food and more, and has already raised over $61,000 with a goal of $900,000, so there is plenty to look forward to.
“We encourage people to wear every color and represent the cancer that has touched their lives,” said Perejda.
