PREP ROUNDUP: Basalt sweeps Rifle softball in Saturday doubleheader; Webster scores 6 goals in Roaring Fork’s 7-2 win over Aspen

Hosting the Basalt Longhorns, ranked No. 4 in the state in 3A, Saturday at Taughenbaugh Field in Rifle, the Rifle Bears softball team was swept in the non-league doubleheader by scores of 17-14 and 6-5, dropping its first two home games of the season.

In the first game, Rifle senior Delaney Phillips recorded 4 hits, reached on a hit by pitch, dropped down a sacrifice bunt, scored 3 runs, stole 4 bases, and drove in a run in the loss. Senior Zoey Loya had a strong day at the plate, recording 2 hits, 2 runs scored, reached on a hit by pitch, and drove in 2 runs.

Freshman Hailey Worton recorded 2 singles, a double, a run scored and a run driven in for the Bears, while Kaylie Stark had 3 hits, reached on a hit by pitch, scored a run, and drove in 2 runs.

Sophomore Emma Poole singled twice, doubled, and drove in 3 runs, while Myia Valencia singled and doubled in the Game 1 loss.

For Basalt in Game 1, Graci Dietrich singled 3 times and scored a run, while Kiera Larson singled 3 times.

In Game 2, Loya recorded 3 hits, while Worton singled twice, scored a run and drove in a run in the 6-5 loss.

Junior Raelynn Hampton singled twice and reached on an error, while Phillips doubled, walked, stole 2 bases and scored a run in the loss.

Senior Hannah Bodrogi singled, recorded a sacrifice fly, drove in a run and stole a base for the Bears.

For the Longhorns in Game 2, Dietrich and Maya Lindgren doubled, while Gaby Magana Silva doubled in the win.

Rifle (12-4) returns to action Thursday at home against Cedaredge for Senior Night.

Basalt (16-2, 8-1 in 3A WSL) travels to Delta Tuesday for a 3A WSL battle with the Panthers as the Longhorns draw closer to the end of the regular season.

BOYS SOCCER

Roaring Fork 7, Aspen 2

Hosting the Aspen Skiers Saturday in Carbondale, the Roaring Fork Rams boys soccer team received a career day from senior Dylan Webster in the 7-2 win.

Webster scored 6 of the Rams’ 7 goals in the win, single-handedly leading the Rams to the blowout win.

Roaring Fork’s 7th goal was an own goal by Aspen.

The Rams (5-1-1, 1-0 in 3A WSL) host Delta next Thursday in a 3A WSL battle.
