Glenwood hockey falls 3-2 at Summit

The Glenwood Springs High boys hockey team lost a heartbreaker on the road at Summit High Saturday night, falling 3-2 as the Tigers scored the winning goal with just one-tenth of a second on the clock.

“Any team has the ability to win our conference,” coach Tim Cota said. “The scores will be close and the battles will be heated. Last night demonstrated that.”

Penalty trouble took the Demons out of their game in the second period, but the teams were tied at two goals apiece until the final second.

“We were pressing in their end, puck gets dumped into our end with 7 seconds left and they come in hard knowing there’s no way we can go end to end in that time and it ends up in the back of our net,” Cota described of Summit’s late-game win.

The Demons goals came from Colter Strautman in the second period and Dylan Webster in the third.

Freshman Hunter Oger got his first start in the net as a freshman and his rose to the occasion, Cota said.

“The effort was there from the boys,” he said. “It was an entertaining game from start to finish; a few missed opportunities, but if you have the effort you have something to build on.”

Glenwood closes out its pre-holiday schedule at Standley Lake in Denver on Monday.
