After a tough 50-30 loss at 5A Grand Junction Central on Thursday, the Rifle girls basketball team had a chance at another 5A team from Mesa County at home Friday night.
The outcome was much the same, as the visiting Tigers dominated from the start, opening a 22-8 halftime lead en route to the 45-24 win.
“Junction is a tough team, and they played well,” Rifle coach Eric Caro said. “Coach (Sam) Provenza does a great job.
“Our girls are still experiencing some growing pains, as this is only the second time we’ve finished a game with a whole roster,” Caro added, referencing some injury concerns for the Bears team. “They are working hard, but I have to push the right buttons.”
Sophomore Jamie Caron led the Bears with 9 points, while junior Mackenzie Elizardo had 5.
Rifle (1-7 overall) travels to Montrose on Tuesday, before hosting rival Glenwood Springs to open the 4A Western Slope League schedule next Friday.

Moffat County 58, Rifle 12
Traveling to Moffat County on Thursday evening, the Rifle High wrestling team got their points with a forfeit for heavyweight Alejandro Robles and a pin for Alex Guardado (195 pounds).
