Roaring Fork soccer tops Rifle, 2-0

Hosting the Rifle Bears boys soccer team Tuesday in Carbondale, the Roaring Fork Rams shook off a rough first half to pick up a 2-0 win in non-league action, moving to 4-0 on the young season, while handing the Bears their first loss of the season.

Against Rifle, sophomore Ross Barlow and freshman Daniel Vega scored second-half goals.

The Rams opened the season with a 4-0 road win over the rival Basalt Longhorns, before topping Vail Mountain (3-2) and Strive Prep – Smart Academy (2-1) in overtime. The Bears opened the season with a pair of road wins, 2-1 over Steamboat Springs and 4-1 over Eagle Valley before Tuesday’s tilt in Carbondale.

Roaring Fork (3-0) travels to Delta Saturday morning for a nonleague matchup with the 3A Western Slope League foe Panthers at 11 a.m., while Rifle (2-1) has a tough road trip Thursday to Edwards to take on the defending 4A Western Slope League champion Battle Mountain Huskies at 6 p.m.
