Jewelry designer Sarah Graham will be visiting Squash Blossom in Vail Village Friday and Saturday, showcasing her newest Eclipse Collection. Graham designs jewelry which is subtly feminine yet substantial with an emphasis on contrast. Through her innovative use of 18-karat gold, oxidized cobalt chrome and bright white diamonds, she creates a striking contrast and depth to the jewelry.
“The Eclipse collection is a study of contrasts at their most basic level – the contrast between light and dark is never more evident than when the moon covers the sun”, Graham describes.
Sarah Graham’s career as a jeweler began when she made a simple line drawing of a bracelet for her sister as a Christmas present. She took the design to a local jeweler and asked him if he could create it. He was so impressed with her design and its potential that he not only agreed to have it made but offered to teach her his craft as well. After her fundamental instruction, Graham perfected her Old World craftsmanship by serving as an unpaid apprentice for two rigorous years under a master goldsmith in Carmel, California. She then became a bench jeweler for six years before launching Sarah Graham Metalsmithing in 2000.
Sarah Graham Metalsmithing is now located in Basalt, Colorado. Like all of her nature-inspired collections, the Eclipse Collection is inspired by the captivating Colorado sky.
“I am noticing the sky in a different way living in Colorado,” said Graham I am more aware of it”.
The unique interpretation Graham has of nature brings her jewelry to life and is a gentle reminder to enjoy the natural beauty around us.
