KDNK will continue its tradition of presenting free, annual outdoor concerts with The Hoot on Friday in downtown Carbondale’s Fourth Street Plaza starting at 5 p.m.
“We want to convene people who like to get together in downtown Carbondale and support community radio,” said KDNK General Manager Gavin Dahl. “Our station has been in growth mode for the last three years — our budget is up, our grants are up, our memberships are up, business support is up and our volunteer participation is up — so it’s really a celebration of that community support and the participatory nature of KDNK.”
The fun begins at 5 with a set by DJ Isaiah, followed at 6 by We Dream Dawn, the new band for Sage Cook who was one of the founding members of Elephant Revival.
“KDNK and Elephant Revival have been allied for many years,” Dahl said. “So this is another opportunity for people to stay connected to that huge, Red Rocks-level sellout fan-base for Sage Cook and his partner.”
The community radio station will continue its partnership with Carbondale Creative District by highlighting Sarah Uhl, one of Carbondale’s most respected artists, who’ll create live art on the grass in the plaza after We Dream Dawn.
The Dendrites, a ska band from the Front Range that headlined the 2018 Carbondale Mountain Fair, will hit the stage at 8 p.m. for what is likely to become a big dance party.
“We’re really excited to hear their horn section and have another danceable, funky headliner,” Dahl said.
A Mountain Fair slideshow will follow The Dendrites’ performance.
The Hoot will also feature craft drinks from Capitol Creek Brewery, Peach Street Distillers, Ska Brewing, Roaring Fork Beer Company, Eddyline Brewery, Marble Distilling Co. & The Distillery Inn plus food from WildStyle Kitchen and The Biscuit Truck, which will feature a special “KDNK Burger” for the event.
