Town of Avon appoints Preston Neill as acting town manager

AVON — At the Jan. 22 meeting of the Avon Town Council, the council voted to place Preston Neill in the position of acting town manager, with immediate effect. Scott Wright, assistant town manager and director of finance, had been serving as acting town manager since June 1.

“The council truly appreciates Scott’s hard work and the many hours he committed to the job over the past seven months,” Mayor Sarah Smith-Hymes said. “We didn’t expect the town manager search to take this long, but our commitment to the search process has been, and remains, quality, not speed. Due to an impending retirement of a key finance leader, and the upcoming annual financial audit, council understands Scott’s desire to be able to re-focus on leading our award-winning finance department.”

Neill has previously served as executive assistant to the town manager and was made deputy town manager in 2017. While serving Avon as acting town manager, he will continue to oversee the town’s general government area, which includes the offices of the town clerk and municipal court, special events and communications. He holds a BA in history from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Public Administration degree from Arizona State University.

“We’re excited to give Preston this opportunity to lead the town’s staff on an interim basis,” said Mayor Pro Tem Amy Phillips, “as we’ve seen so much good work from him, and the effective relationships he has in the community.”
