Trail runner who killed mountain lion with bare hands to speak at Larimer County news conference

A trail runner who killed a young mountain lion, in self-defense and with his bare hands, in Larimer County will speak at a news conference on Thursday.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the county Department of Natural Resources will facilitate the conference on the unusual lion attack and subsequent killing which happened Feb. 4 in Horsetooth Mountain Open Space.

“The trail runner involved in the incident will be present to share his story and take media questions for up to 30 minutes,” according to a Tuesday announcement from the wildlife division.

The runner, who has not been identified, will not be available for individual interviews, the release said. Only media who are credentialed will gain access to the conference.
