BEAVER CREEK — What’s a little snow among friends?
It is ski racing after all.
The Vail Mountain School and Battle Mountain Alpine squads claimed individual and team victories on Beaver Creek’ Bear Trap on Friday that, at times, turned into a powder day.
There are two caveats to the following. First, the results that follow come from livetiming.com, and are not official. Second, Aspen called off school because of the weather and didn’t send a team, so there were no Skiers skiers.
Go, go Gore Rangers
VMS and Battle Mountain took 12 of the top 15 spots in the boys’ race. The Gore Rangers’ Robert Harnick topped all comers with a time of 2 minutes, 8.53 seconds for the win. The rest of the podium was black and gold with Max Timm, 9-hundredths behind, and Dominik Lettovosky in third (27-hundredths).

The Gore Rangers’ Shane Cole was fourth, spurred by the fastest second run of the day, followed by teammate Mackay Pattison. With a 1-4-5 finish, pending the result going official, VMS won the team competition.
Battle Mountain and Vail Mountain tied for second last week in Aspen.
The Huskies’ Dutch Schroeder, Aaron Galehr, Casey Cope, Orion Adelman, and Xander Armistead all punched into the top 15. For the Gore Rangers, Austin Morris and Theo Marston were also in that select group.
Battle Mountain’s Will Bettenhausen, who won last week’s GS in Aspen, was fourth after his morning run but was a DNF in run No. 2.
Gretchen the Great
Battle Mountain’s Gretchen Pavelich made it two wins in a row on the girls’ side. She bested teammate Berit Frischholz by 1.01 seconds. The Huskies’ Christina Lettovsky was fourth, and, yes, 1-2-4 generally makes for a team win, Battle Mountain’s second in as many weeks.
Leah Sandberg (fifth), Elle Young (seventh) and Kiana Brausch (ninth) all made the top 10 for the Huskies.
Quinn Kelley led VMS in sixth, with Lexi Linafelter (10th) and Rachel Conley (15th).
The Alpine circuit heads to Copper Mountain next week for a slalom.
