VAIL — There’s no need for consultants on this one: When Vail Mountain gets snow, people come to town.
According to town officials, Vail’s two parking structures, at Vail Village and Lionshead, filled by 10 a.m. on Thursday. That’s more than 2,200 spaces filled by mid-morning.
When the structures fill, motorists are directed to park on the town’s frontage road. At about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Vail Parking Supervisor Stephanie Kashiwa said nearly 300 cars were parked on those roads. In comparison, about 400 cars were parked on the frontage roads on Sunday, Jan. 20. That was the Sunday of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
Vail Mountain reported nine inches of new snow early Thursday morning, and snow continued through the day. According to the resort’s website, the ski area so far this season has received 187 inches of snow.
