Fresh off the NHL All-Star break and in the midst an eight-day hiatus from hockey altogether, the Avalanche sits in the exact same position as it did to conclude last season.
So much for improvement from that playoff season that was 2017-18.
Colorado (22-20-8) has 52 points and barely controls the eighth and final Western Conference playoff position, the same spot it barely finished in April with 95 points (43-30-9).
The major difference between the seasons is success at home. The Avs tied a franchise record with 28 wins at the Pepsi Center last season, but are below average in producing two points at home this year. Their current “official” home record is 10-8-5, which is actually 10-13 in straight-up wins/losses.
They were 28-11-2 last season at The Can, where winning was the norm.
