With more snow means better skiing in Arapahoe Basin Ski Area’s terrain expansion into The Beavers and Steep Gullies. A-Basin chief operating officer Alan Henceroth described recent skiing in a small portion of that terrain expansion, The Bald Spot, in a post on his A-Basin blog on Sunday.
Henceroth said that The Bald Spot is a short yet gnarly new ski run below and west of the bottom of The Beavers chairlift. He compared it in size and steepness to the ski area’s Lower Alleys terrain.
“The deeper the snow,” Henceroth said on his blog, “the better the skiing is over there. Now that our base is over 50 inches deep, the skiing is getting really good. Friday, it was spectacular.”
Henceroth also said that after skiing the Bald Spot, skiers can access the bottom of the new Beavers lift via a short and easy five to 10 minute boot-pack hike. The Bald Spot is double-black diamond terrain recommended only for skiers and riders with extensive experience in extreme terrain.
