The Breckenridge Police Department introduced Deric Gress as the department’s new assistant chief of police at the town’s regular council meeting Tuesday evening.
Gress will take over for Nicola Erb, who resigned from the post in November for personal reasons.
Gress grew up in Eagle, Colorado, before enlisting in the Marines, where he served as a Presidential Guard in Washington, D.C, along with serving in the Gulf War. After the war Gress became a police officer in Avon for four years before moving to Michigan, where he completed 21 years with the Ypsilanti Police Department. Along with a long career in local law enforcement, Gress is also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy, Police Staff & Command School and holds a bachelor’s degree in applied science.
In Breckenridge, Gress will take over responsibility for patrol and investigations.
“I am excited to have Deric on board,” said Breckenridge chief Jim Baird. “He will be an incredible asset to the agency as we continue to find ways to better deliver police services to the town of Breckenridge.”
