FRISCO — Law enforcement officers from around the county got a little bit of exercise Wednesday morning while helping to raise awareness and money for Special Olympics Colorado.
On Wednesday, representatives with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Blue River Marshal’s Office and the police departments in Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne came out to take part in the Summit County Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The run is the Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser, calling on police officers across Colorado — along with their spouses, friends and family — to carry the Flame of Hope throughout the state. In Summit County, officers ran, walked and biked a 16-mile course from Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge to Rainbow Park in Silverthorne. Together, the group raised more than $1,000.
The event began in 1981, and today all 50 states and more than 35 countries have Torch Run programs. Almost 45 agencies took part in the event this year in Colorado.
